I have a copy of Love is a Mixtape. I'll bring it to class today; it's an amazing (and fairly quick) read. It was also written by my friend's older sister's best friend... crazy, right?

Ok...so finally able to comment...our school's internet is so aggravating.

Anyways...

First off, props to you for contacting him. I don't know if I could ever do that! It's really cool that he responded, even if he only did so once. However, he should be willing to step up to a challenge and write back to you again. If it was me, A) I would be honored that a college seminar class is using my book and B) I would take the challenge of explaining why I wrote what I wrote. The fact that he responded in the first place obviously means you got to him in some way and made him think. I think the fact that he didn't respond again is pretty cowardly.

Who backs down from that? Seriously, here you are initiating a great debate about a very controversial statement in his book, and he can't even respond. It's not like what you wrote to him was disrespectful, in fact, it was quite the contrary. You were respectful and your letter(s) could, and did in class, spark some very interesting conversations. My thoughts: Miller isn't willing to defend what he wrote and is challenged by you.

So, come on Miller: step up to the challenge and tell us what you mean!

Maybe, we should all write emails to him asking about what he really meant and why he wrote what he wrote. He can't ignore all of us and we might finally get some answers!

Michele wanted to comment, but the site won't let her, so I'm trying this out.

I love your updates about the local music scene, by the way! Are you from around here?

nicely done. I wish I saw/got to play with this fellow more often. I'm glad you are doing interviews. I don't think any people in my class ever did.

I was going to post a link on campbell's blog that is relevant to your class/world, but figured I would spread the wealth. If anything, the title alone just makes me smile...
